Digital Play // Prototyping // Urban Stories
Once Upon a Bench is an interactive bench placed in public, urging the people who sit on it to participate in a collective chain of storytelling.
The prototype was programmed using Arduino and Processing. When sitting on a seat placed on an ordinary bench in a park, the story told by people who sat on the bench before you will be played, followed by instructions on how to continue the story. Picking up and opening a book enables you to record your part of the story. When the book is closed, the story is saved and ready to be played for the following participant.
The project was made in collaboration with Astrid Stokholm, Ida Hartmann, Lasse Ancher, and Jasper Van’t Veen.
A magical universe unfolds when you sit on the bench
